Lawsuit blames Southern California Edison for Thomas Fire and mudslides

Lawsuit filed on behalf of 287 victims

VENTURA, Calif. - A legal group has filed a lawsuit against Southern California Edison on behalf of victims of the Thomas Fire and resulting mudslides.

The Southern California-based Wildfire Legal Group filed the lawsuit Friday on behalf of 287 victims of the Thomas Fire. The lawsuit alleges SCE is liable for negligently starting the fire citing poor maintenance of electrical infrastructure and surrounding vegetation.

It also seeks to hold SCE responsible for the mudslides in Montecito that occurred in the wake of the Thomas Fire.

Homeowners, renters, business owners, ranchers and avocado and citrus farmers are part of the lawsuit which hopes to recover losses not covered by insurance. This includes damages from emotional harm, personal injuries, and subsequent mudslides.

The Wildfire Legal Group filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court.
