SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - While all the animal evacuees from the Thomas Fire have been picked up, animal services agencies in Santa Barbara County are busy with animal evacuees once again.
There are currently over 50 animals at the Earl Warren Showgrounds that have been evacuated due to the storms, many have been taken there by Santa Barbara Equine Assistance and Evacuation Team.
Just like other emergency personnel, Santa Barbara County Animal Services has a lot up against them when it comes rescuing these animals as well.
"There's dangerous areas, deep mud, running water, downed powered lines - there are a lot of really unsafe conditions and like other first responders we advise them to take their safety first," said Community Outreach Coordinator, Jennifer Adame.
Now Animal Services says they could use help from the community with donations as opposed to extra supplies because the extra time spent by crews in the field and answering their hotline is becoming very costly.
They are encouraging people to call their hotline to make a lost report or ask if they can rescue animals and bring them in.
