SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

The strengthened version of California's Paid Family Leave Law took effect July 1.

State Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson authored the changes that will allow people up to six weeks off with pay to care for extended family members such as grandparents and grandchildren.

The change also marked the 10th anniversary of the Paid Family Leave Act.

Nearly 2 million people have taken advantage of family leave in the past decade.
