SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Romantic, religious and fun holidays converge in 2018.
That's why some people celebrating Mardi Gras are also preparing for Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day on February 14.
Flower grower Erik Van Wingeden said Catholics giving up candy for lent will be able to enjoy flowers but not candy on Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day.
Some people enjoying the Mardi Gras celebration at The Palace Grill in Santa Barbara were caught off guard when they learned the dates.
They enjoyed the food and music with the coincidence in mind.
And those dates aren't the only ones making people look closely at their calendars.
Easter Sunday coincides with April Fools' Day this year.
Father Larry Gosselin, wore Mardi Gras beads on Fat Tuesday.
The Franciscan Friar from Old Mission Santa Barbara said, "It' is a wonderful thing, it is a combination of the head and the heart coming together."
As for April Fools' Day, he said, "God is a mystery and we celebrate the mystery of God's love."
