It's been nearly 10 years since habitat for humanity last built a home in Lompoc. The non-profit organization builds affordable housing for low-income families.
Habitat for Humanity in Northern Santa Barbara County has been struggling to get affordable housing in the Lompoc area the organization has worked for 5-years to get their most recent project started.
The non-profit organization started on their latest project in 2009 but it's stalled because they lost funding.
Now it's picked back up, Habitat for Humanity will help three families with housing.
The woman who was chosen 5 years ago will live in the existing home. The group is making it handicap accessible for her. Behind the existing house habitat will add a condo with a three bedroom home upstairs and another with four bedroom downstairs.
Harvey Wynne is the project manager, but 10 years ago when habitat built it's last home in Lompoc Wynne was a volunteer.
Wynne said "It was exciting to see people come help build the projects for habitat. the owners have to put in 500 hours to build each home. we become like a family."
