VENTURA, Calif. -

A Ventura man was shot in the leg Thursday night on Seaward Avenue just after 9 p.m.

Ventura police responded to a 911 call from a hotel on Seaward when the victim, Joshua Anderson, 35, collapsed in the entrance to the hotel. Authorities say Anderson was on the beach when he was approached by an unknown male suspect who was pushing a red bike on the sand. Anderson and the other man got into a verbal argument and that's when the man with a bike pulled a small handgun and shot Anderson in the leg, according to police.

Ventura patrol officers and a K-9 unit responded and searched the beach and surrounding areas for the suspect. No one was found.

Anderson was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries. Authorities say those injuries were non-life threatening.
