SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Molly Morrison went to high school with Giselle Ayala and looked forward to spending time with her the weekend of the Deltopia street party last year.

But on April 5, the night before the event, Ayala fell to her death off the cliffs in Isla Vista. A jogger discovered her body in the water of Campus Point.

Since then, Morrison has become involved in Fence Isla Vista and Associated Student's Public Safety Commission. To mark the anniversary of Ayala's fatal fall, members of the groups gathered on the lawn behind the University Center to hold a vigil and walk.  They held battery-operated candles and shared their thoughts and memories.

Morrison said people can have fun without getting hurt if they think about safety first.  She said the current Coral style fending in Isla Vista is not high enough to keep people from sitting on them and possibly falling off.
