Christie Neill is the Planning Section Chief for the Rey fire burning in Santa Barbara County.

She helps run the briefing before crews head out to the firelines.

The evening briefing doesn't always include updated acreage.

Neill said that's because planes using infrared technology map the fires at night and then bring the information back to the base camp.

The information is used to come up with an agreed upon size.

The fire has burned more than 47 square miles in less than a week.
