FedEx truck blows tire causing traffic jam near Nipomo

One lane closed northbound U.S. 101

NIPOMO, Calif. - UPDATE

A FedEx truck driver now says a blown tire led to a fire that caused slowing on U.S. Highway 101 just outside of Santa Maria.

The driver says he was able to steer the truck out of the way of other traffic.  No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and the truck was carrying only cardboard boxes, no valuables.

Traffic is still moving slowly in the northbound lanes near the Speedway. 

No injuries have been reported.

ORIGINAL STORY

A traffic accident involving a FedEx truck is under investigation Wednesday morning.

The crash was reported around 6:24 a.m. on U.S. Highway 101 near the Speedway right outside of Santa Maria. The northbound lanes have been slow because of the fire.

The truck was carrying two trailers as it hit the center divider before catching on fire. There is no word yet on the extent of any injuries.

The southbound lanes are open but at least one northbound lane remains shut down.
