Tree cleared from Hwy 101 restores traffic in Arroyo Grande

Fallen tree blocks Hwy 101 Traffic

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - UPDATE:  The tree was cleared away from the freeway in the 4:00 p.m. hour, helping to restore traffic flow that was backed up for miles during the lane closure.

A Sig Alert was called for a blocked lane of northbound Highway 101 near the Fair Oaks exit in Arroyo Grande on Friday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol website said parts of a tree blocked the right lane of the freeway, leaving only one lane for traffic to move through.  The backup may last for hours.

CHP has advised drivers to try and avoid the area if possible throughout the afternoon until the tree can be removed.
