Hancock College launches online campaign seeking donations for student clubs

"Love Your Club" fundraiser to support five groups

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College has launched an online crowdfunding campaign to help support five on-campus student clubs.

On Monday, the "Love Your Club," campaign returned, marking the second straight year the school has held the online fundraiser.

Beginning March 12, the clubs will be actively seeking donations over the next four weeks to help fund a specific goal or need.

Supporters will be able to make financial contributions at

"Each of the five clubs has their own personal crowdfunding page, so when you go to the landing page, it will give you a selection of all the different clubs," said Allan Hancock College Advancement Specialist Natalie Rucobo. "You can click on the club and donate to the specific club and if you want to donate to all of them, you can do that too."

The five participating student groups are the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), the Jazz and Pep Club, the Drama Club, the Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) Honor Society and the DREAM Club.

Each club has a targeted financial goal between $1,000 - $3,000.

"We need licensing," said drama club member Maryann Montalbo. "We need rental for lighting. We're trying to build a pageant wagon, so we can tour around to different campuses to promote our plays and having people view them. We also have advertisements as well."

"It will be going towards the DREAM Center, which we'll be potentially getting," said DREAM club member Jessica Zarate. "It's going to be for undocumented students. Some of the students don't have resources, financial aid, books and lending money for their classes."

According to Rucobo, last year's inaugural campaign was a big hit.

"It was great last year," said Rucobo. "We had almost 200 gifts come in and we raised almost $15,000, so it was very successful last year and the clubs were very happy with it."

The Love Your Club campaign will run until Monday, April 9.
