SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

A new organization has been formed called VOW4MAL to raise awareness about the dangers or drinking and driving.

It was developed after the tragic loss of a downtown worker, Mallory Dies, last December when she was hit by a suspected drunk driver in Santa Barbara while crossing Anacapa St. with friends.  She later died in Cottage Hospital.

The Greater Santa Barbara Lodging and Restaurant Association donated $250. to the cause at the annual membership meeting today.

Matt Dies, Mallory's father, accepted the donation saying efforts are underway to use the funds for a large scale public education effort. "Our main focus is,  not at the policy level,  it's downtown in the trenches,  in the bars, the clubs, the transportation industry.  Change behavior and have people think about  not having those drinks and get in the car," he said.

Dies wears a sticker with his daughter's face on it as a reminder to others about the impacts of drinking and driving.

Monday there will be a special fundraising golf tournament for the VOW4MAL cause.

It takes place at the Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta.

Signups can be made at Holdren's restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara.
