SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Dining out today in Santa Barbara could help raise thousands of dollars for programs that will help kids avoid drugs and alcohol.

The special fundraiser is being coordinated through the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA).

Up to 25 percent of overall sales are being contributed by about two dozen restaurants involved in the program.

Organizers say it puts business leaders in a visible position when it comes to helping local kids.

The funds raised will help with many programs that include mentors, newsletters, and youth services. CADA also has a very strong link to local schools and contacts young people about drug and alcohol issues at a very early age.
