SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Academy Award winning director Martin Scorsese and 4-time Oscar nominated actor Leonardo DiCaprio arrived at the Arlington Theater Thursday night amid huge crowds. Fans lined the barricades hoping to get up close with two of Hollywood's' greatest.

The duo received the Santa Barbara International Film Festival's Cinema Vanguard Award in celebration of their film collaborations including their latest, The Wolf of Wall Street. Other films they've worked on together include The Aviator, The Departed, Gangs of New York,  and Shutter Island.

There was a startling moment as DiCaprio was making his way to the red carpet. An out of control fan who was inside the press area with a press pass rushed the actor. He hugged DiCaprio tight right below the waist and wouldn't let go until security pulled him off and escorted him out.  The startling moment didn't cause injury and didn't disrupt the tribute.

The Arlington Theater was overflowing with people anxious to hear from the two legends who spoke extensively about their friendship and body of work.
