NIPOMO, Calif. - An emotional morning for a Nipomo family as they sat outside a relative's home now turned into crime scene.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office says they received a 911 call around three this morning.
That's when they say they found a 24 year old woman with a stab wound to the neck. Why she was stabbed and who did it is still under investigation.
"The difficulty in this case is there are conflicting accounts and conflicting reports and we gotta kinda put it all together and use our detectives' skills and try and figure out what exactly is the true narrative," explains SLO County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Tony Cipolla.
Detectives are questioning a man they believe to be the woman's boyfriend but he is not a suspect at this time.
For neighbors in the area, they say crime is very rare - often feeling comfortable enough to not even lock their doors.
"I guess I was surprised [when I heard the news], says long-time Nipomo resident Jack Pittenger.
"I don't think there's any reason for people to be afraid on this street but if there are other people in the neighborhood doing things like that.. I don't know what to think," Pittenger says.
Now detectives are still actively working on this case but at this time it is still considered a suspicious death and not a homicide.
