Ventura police searching for suspect who may have attempted to lure child

VENTURA, Calif. - The Ventura Police Department is searching for a suspect who may have attempted to lure a 10-year-old girl in Ventura Wednesday evening.

At around 5:50 p.m., a young girl was skating near Neath Street and Champlain Avenue when a masked man made verbal contact with her.

The man was standing near an open passenger door of a vehicle and told the girl to come to over to where he was standing.

The young girl immediately turned around and started to return to her home down the street.

As the girl approached her home she noticed that the suspect had gotten into his vehicle and appeared to follow her for a short distance before making a U-turn and driving in the opposite direction.

The suspect vehicle was last seen driving westbound on Neath Street.

Officers responded to the scene and searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

The 10-year-old girl was not injured in the incident.

The suspect has been described as a black male, about 35 years old and 6 feet tall. He was wearing a black shirt, black pants and a mask.

He was seen driving a dark gray, older model sedan with dents on the hood.

If anyone sees the suspect or vehicle they are urged to immediately contact authorities.
