Ventura PD conduct sex offender sweep

VENTURA, Calif. - The Ventura Police Department conducted a compliance check of registered sex offenders this past weekend.

Police say they check up on offenders two to three times year, especially before Halloween.

Officers inspected 39 locations and made two arrests.

Police arrested 64-year-old Eric Rasmussen for felony violations of his probation terms and possession of sexually explicit material.

Police also arrested 51-year-old Jack Rickman for felony violations of his probation terms, narcotics use and two felony warrants.

Commander Sam Arroyo says 35 of the 40 registered sex offenders are prohibited from participating in Halloween festivities

“Things happen sometimes that we just want to try and prevent it,” Arroyo said. “Our goal is to prevent it from happening and that is why we inform the public this time of year just to be aware and keep your eyes open and just pay attention.”

Ventura police have offered some safety tips for trick-or-treaters Tuesday night

They want to remind parents to supervise young children and do not approach any location that is dark and appears to be unoccupied.
