UCSB student fights off attacker

Suspect sexually assaulted woman

ISLA VISTA, Calif. - A University of California, Santa Barbara student fought back after she was sexually assaulted Saturday night in Isla Vista.

The female student was walking home on the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive when a male suspect walked up from behind her and grabbed her in the crotch. 

The victim turned around and punched the man in the face, knocking him to the ground. She was then able to make it back to her home and contact law enforcement.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies and Isla Vista Foot Patrol searched the area but couldn't locate the suspect.

He has been described as a white, college-aged man standing 6-feet tall with black hair. He was wearing a black colored shirt at the time of the assault.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact the Isla Vista Foot Patrol at (805) 681-4179. 

Students are advised not to walk alone at night. Anyone can request an escort by calling the UCSB escort line at (805) 893-2000.

UCSB police offer a Rape Aggression Defense program and the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center also offers self-defense classes, for anyone interested in learning self defense techniques.
