Transient woman accused of stabbing man in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. - A vagrant woman from the Ventura area was arrested Saturday in connection to a stabbing and attempted robbery that occurred Friday morning in Ventura.

Ventura police responded to a local hospital for a report of a man suffering from a non-life threatening stab wound to his torso.

Police learned that the man and an acquaintance were walking in Mission Park when they were approached by a woman who demanded his belongings while brandishing a knife.

The victim refused and the woman became upset and stabbed him.

The woman then fled the area on foot and was not located by police.

The following morning, officers were on an unrelated call on a bike path near West Park Row when they saw the stabbing suspect, identified as 34-year-old Martha Berber.

Berber was contacted and placed under arrest without incident.

She was transported to the Ventura County Jail where she could face charges for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.
