Santa Maria Police continue to investigate the deadly shooting of a teenage boy with no arrests so far in the city's third homicide of the year.
Police say they responded to a call of gunshots at about 8:00 pm Wednesday night along the 300 block of West Newlove Drive.
When officers arrived on scene the unidentified young man was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are investigating the possibility the deadly shooting may be gang related.
The area on West Newlove Drive is densely populated with working families and children playing in front yards and the street.
Neighbors we spoke with say they don't know the young man who was killed but add the homicide has cast a pall over the neighborhood at a joyous time of the year for Christmas.
"It's scary, you get scared again, afraid to come outside, you don't have confidence to come outside no more, especially at night", said neighbor Yuri Hernandez who shares an apartment with her three young children, "its kind of sad because there's a family that's not going to spend Christmas with one person, especially having families gather and being happy and that family will not be happy."
Anyone with information about the deadly shooting is urged to call the Santa Maria Police Department at 805-928-3781 and can do so anonymously.
