GROVER BEACH, Calif. - A man suspected of stealing a large amount of mail from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties was arrested Saturday morning in Grover Beach.
Matthew Loren Wilber, 26, of Red Bluff was located sleeping in his car on the 200 block of North 16th Street at around 7:20 a.m. Saturday.
Sleeping in a car is a violation of a Grover Beach municipal code.
Police made contact with Wilber and learned that he was on probation and was not allowed to have any blank checks.
When police searched Wilber's vehicle they found a small amount of heroin, drug paraphernalia, stolen credit cards and a large amount of unreported stolen mail from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.
He was also found to be in possession of blank checks stolen from a victim in Grover Beach.
Wilber was arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail. He faces possible charges for narcotics possession and forgery.
A joint investigation is ongoing with the U.S. Postal Inspector’s Office and the Grover Beach Police Department.
