VENTURA, Calif. - A Ventura man was arrested early Thursday morning after police say he led them on a high speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle through the streets of Ventura.
At around 2:00 a.m., a patrol officer observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the parking lot of McDonald's at 5980 Telegraph Road.
The officer ran the plate of the suspect vehicle and determined that the plates on the vehicle were stolen.
When the officer attempted to make a traffic stop the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. The officer pursued the vehicle west on Telegraph Road as the vehicle ran through red lights and reaching speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.
The suspect vehicle turned into a residential area at Bryn Mawr Street and continued to speed and disobey traffic control devices.
The suspect jumped out of the moving car on Broderick Avenue and then continued to flea on foot.
A Ventura Police K9 was deployed and assisted in taking the suspect into custody on the 300 block of Harte Avenue.
The suspect was identified as Shawn Mahoney, 22, of Ventura. After Mahoney was taken into custody officers discovered that the license plates were stolen from Oxnard and the vehicle was a separate stolen vehicle also out of Oxnard.
Mahoney was arrested and transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained from the K9. He was booked into the Ventura County Jail after being released from the hospital.
Mahoney could face charges for evading arrest, resisting arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of burglary tools.
No other injuries were reported in the pursuit.
