SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A Santa Paula man was arrested Saturday afternoon after police say he struck a woman multiple times in the face and attempted to choke her.
At around 1:00 p.m., Santa Paula police responded to a call of an injured woman near Las Piedras Park in Santa Paula.
When officers arrived they found an 18-year-old woman with massive swelling and injuries to her face.
Officers determined that the victim was with the suspect in a vehicle parked in the area of Mill Park.
According to the victim, the suspect became angry and struck the victim multiple times in the head, face and back. The suspect also reportedly choked the victim.
The woman was eventually able to flee the area and contact authorities. She was transported to Santa Paula Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect was located in the area of Mill Park and was arrested.
He has been identified as Joshua Stephenson, 20, of Santa Paula.
Stephenson could face multiple charges including attempted murder, inflicting corporal injury to a cohabitant and assault with a deadly weapon.
Stephenson was processed at the Santa Paula Police Department and then transported to Ventura County Main Jail. He is being held on $505,000 bond.
