SANTA MARIA, Calif, - The Santa Maria Police Department investigated two shootings that took place Saturday night in Santa Maria.
Just before 6 p.m., police began investigating a shooting at a home on the 600 block of West Taft Street.

Crime scene investigators were on scene but it was later determined the shooting was accidental. A man accidentally shot himself in the thigh. He was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries but is expected to be okay.
A second shooting took place near the intersection of Canal Street and Signal Avenue just a few hours later.
At around 9:15 p.m., police received a report about a shooting victim who may have been shot in a drive-by.
A man was walking on the sidewalk when he was shot in the leg with a small caliber gun. Santa Maria Fire Department and AMR responded to assist with the shooting victim. He was later transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police said the man did not have any enemies and there were no immediate suspects. This shooting investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Santa Maria Police Department.
