Police believe shooting was gang-related

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria Police are investigating a shooting that left one man seriously wounded early Monday morning.

It happened sometime after 12:30 a.m. in front of a home along the 900 Block of West El Camino Street.

Police say the first officers on scene found a 21 year old man suffering from a single gunshot wound to his chest.

He was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center and is currently listed in critical condition, Police said.

Police believe the incident is gang related and are investigating the shooting as an attempted homicide.

"It is early, right now we are putting all of our effort into the person who was shot, making sure he survives", said Santa Maria Police Detective Andy Brice, "obviously that's our hope and prayer, we will talk to him at length, he is probably going to be the best information we get."

Police spent the morning looking for more evidence in the shooting including on the roof of the home and a neighbor's home where it happened.

The name of the man shot has not yet been released and so far no arrests have been made.
