Santa Maria murder suspect dead...

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - An officer-involved shooting in Los Angeles County has left a murder suspect connected to an Amber Alert out of Santa Maria dead Tuesday night.

48-year-old Konstantin Morozov was taken to the hospital in critical condition but police confirmed he died from his injuries during a press briefing.

The shooting occurred in Tarzana, California just before 7 p.m. The Santa Maria Police Department said it received a tip Tuesday morning that Morozov was in an apartment located in the 5500 block of Lindley Avenue in Tarzana/Encino.

"We had a variety of tips whether they were due to the Amber Alert of from folks just seeing cars or people looking that seem similar and talking to everyone involved--family members or otherwise. Because we were in Santa Maria, we couldn't get here [Tarzana/Encino] right away--so we passed it to the FBI," said Detective Andrew Brice with the Santa Maria Police Department.

The LAPD and FBI arrived to the apartment location and confirmed the father and son were indeed at that location, according to law enforcement officials. It's unclear how the confrontation between Morozov and police escalated to a situation that led to officers discharging their firearms.

Officials said the suspect's gun was recovered at the scene.

Morozov is accused of killing his ex-wife and kidnapping their 9-year-old son Daniel. Daniel was found safe, according to the California Highway Patrol, and is currently with Child Protective Services. Officials are looking for a responsible adult to take care of Daniel.

The Amber Alert was deactivated at about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Morozov and his son Daniel were last seen Monday night after the fatal shooting of Natalia Morozova at her apartment complex in Santa Maria.
