Santa Maria man charged with involuntary manslaughter in killing of brother

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria resident Fernando Navarro, 19, the man accused of killing his 13-year-old brother, has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter.

"The felony complaint charges Involuntary Manslaughter, in violation of Penal Code section 192(b); Discharge of a Firearm with Gross Negligence, in violation of Penal Code 246.3; and Unlawful Firearm Activity, in violation of Penal Code 29815.  In addition to those charges, special allegations that Mr. Navarro personally used a firearm and inflicted great bodily injury are also alleged," said a statement by the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.

Navarro pled not guilty in Santa Maria Superior Court. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 15 to set a preliminary hearing. His bail was set at $130,000.
