SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara Police say officers arrested an adult male accused of stealing a truck Tuesday morning.
Authorities responded to El Arco Drive in Santa Barbara at 4:29 a.m. after the owner of the Ford F250 heard his vehicle start and drive away. The owner then called police.
Just minutes after showing up at the scene, police say officers spotted the stolen truck driving down Garden Street and Los Olivos. Police followed the truck until the driver bailed, jumping out on East Pedregosa Street. The truck continued to roll down the street before coming to rest up against a tree.
The suspect fled and hid in the neighborhood. A K-9 unit from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department joined the search and located the suspect hiding in heavy brush behind an address on the 2000 block of Garden Street. The suspect was arrested without incident.
Santa Barbara police have identified the suspect as 23-year-old Franuel Jaimes-Aguilar. He was booked on the following charges:
- 10851 VC - Stolen Vehicle
- 496 PC - Possession of Stolen Property
- 466 PC - Possession of Burglary Tools
- and 148(a)(1) PC - resist/obstruct/delay a peace officer.
Police say there could be one more person who was involved but they are confident that the man arrested was the driver.
