Santa Barbara man found guilty of raping homeless woman

Faces 63 years to life in prison

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A Santa Barbara man could face life in prison after he was found guilty of raping an intoxicated homeless woman in 2015.

Appearing in court on Wednesday, Ronald Larry Ledesma, 56, was found guilty on charges of rape of an intoxicated person, sexual penetration of an intoxicated person, and two counts of battery.

On November 5, 2015, Ledesma took an intoxicated homeless woman from outside of a shelter, led the woman to his RV and raped her.

The following day, the woman went to Cottage Hospital to seek treatment and reported the rape to Santa Barbara police officers.

Investigators interviewed witnesses to corroborate the woman's claims. One witness told police that they saw Ledesma forcefully pull the woman into his RV.

Ledesma was identified by police investigators and was known to authorities.

Arrest warrants were obtained and Ledesma was arrested inside his RV. 

Ledesma will be sentenced on Monday, Oct. 2. He could face 63 years to life in prison.
