Port Hueneme man arrested after vandalizing cars, assaulting witness

PORT HUENEME, Calif. - A Port Hueneme man was arrested Thursday after police say he vandalized multiple cars with a metal object and then assaulted a witness.

At around 11:35 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of East C Street and 2nd Street for a report of a disturbance.

When officers arrived they found two men restraining a third man in the driveway of a residence.

Police learned that the restrained man had been damaging vehicles in the area with a large metal object, later identified as a 'main water line shutoff key T-bar' (pictured below).

A male resident in the area stepped out of his home to check on his vehicle when he spotted the suspect.

The suspect challenged the resident to a fight and chased the man back toward his home while swinging the metal object. The suspect also smashed a car that was parked at the residence.

A second man exited the residence and ran to the aid of the first man. The two men were able to subdue and restrain the suspect until police arrived.

One of the men suffered minor lacerations and was treated at the scene.

Police arrested the suspect, identified as Martin Garcia, 42, of Port Hueneme.

Garcia was taken to the Port Hueneme Police Department for booking and then was transported to the Ventura County Main Jail.

Garcia could face charges for assault with a deadly weapon, felony vandalism and providing false information to a police officer.

According to police records, Garcia has a long history of drug use which has resulted in multiple convictions for drug possession.
