SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A Thursday morning welfare check led to a slow speed chase and DUI arrest near Guadalupe.
Just before 10 a.m., deputies with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office were called to check on a man who was asleep behind the wheel of his Chevy pickup truck on Kapalua Drive in Orcutt.
When deputies approached the truck, the unidentified driver sped off leading authorities on a slow speed chase, according to authorities.
Pursuit speeds stayed constant at approximately 40-50 mph.
At one point, the suspect got on Highway 1 and began traveling towards Guadalupe. The chase ended near Brown Road and Highway 1 when the driver decided to pull over.
The truck was impounded and the driver was booked for driving under the influence.
