Police investigating stabbing at Santa Maria Shopping Center

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Monday morning near the JC Penney at the Santa Maria Shopping Center.

A male victim with a non-life threatening stab wound to the abdomen was transported to the hospital, according to authorities.

The crime occurred at about 10:04 a.m. Santa Maria police said the victim was in the rear alley of JC Penny in the 1300 block of South Broadway when two unknown Hispanic men approached him and began assaulting him.

At some point during the altercation, the victim received one stab wound to the stomach, according to police. Authorities do not believe this incident is gang-related.

No arrests have been made at this time.
