VENTURA, Calif. - A man who stabbed a Simi Valley mosque member while yelling ethnic slurs in late 2016 was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
Marco Anthony Delacruz, 27, was sentenced for the December stabbing in Ventura County District Court on Monday.
On December 10, 2016, Delacruz and another man, John Matteson, approached a Mosque on Erringer Road on and asked to use the bathroom.
Members of the mosque told the men that the building was closed. Delacruz and Matteson then began yelling ethnic and religious slurs.
A fight broke out between the suspects and members of the mosque which resulted in Delacruz stabbing one of the members of the mosque.
A preliminary hearing for Matteson is scheduled for September 6.
