Man shot in Oxnard dies from injuries

Angel Ortiz Ramirez was father of four

OXNARD, Calif. - A 32-year-old man who was shot Saturday night in Oxnard has died.

The man has been identified as Angel Ortiz Ramirez of Oxnard.

Ramirez was shot just before 10:00 p.m. on King Street, between 9th Street and Wooley Road.

Ramirez was transported to Ventura County Medical Center by ambulance. He later died in the hospital.

Oxnard police say Ramirez leaves behind four young children. Ramirez was also actively involved in the community as a little league baseball coach and a youth basketball coach.

Investigators are still trying to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. Ramirez' death is being investigated as a homicide.

This is Oxnard's sixth homicide of the year. Most of the homicides are believed to be gang related.

Due to a recent uptick in violent crime in the city, Oxnard Police Department has begun deploying extra resources in certain neighborhoods with a particular focus on the hours after 9:00 p.m.
