GROVER BEACH, Calif. - An officer-involved shooting in the 1000 block of Brighton Avenue in Grover Beach early Thursday morning left one man dead.
Two Grover Beach Police officers are on paid administrative leave as a result of the shooting.
Officers were initially dispatched to the Grover Beach home on Wednesday, July 12 shortly before 10:30 p.m. for reports of a man causing a disturbance.
When they arrived on scene, two officers with a combined 16 years of experience in law enforcement approached the man who was said to be holding a blunt object. The man who did not live at the home became argumentative and combative with the officers and was eventually tased, according to police.
The taser reportedly had no effect on the man.
"The suspect continued to threaten the officers and charged toward them with the weapon in a threatening manner which resulted in an officer-involved shooting," said the Grover Beach Police Department in a statement.
"The officers immediately summoned medical aid, however, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The officers were not injured during the assault," the statement continued.
The investigation is being handled by the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office.
Police did not release the identities of the man and officers involved citing the ongoing investigation and pending family notifications.
