Lompoc man charged with attempted murder of a police officer

Suspect nabbed after officer-involved shooting

LOMPOC, Calif. - An officer-involved shooting and a foot pursuit led to the arrest of a Lompoc man who is not facing attempted murder charges of a police officer.

Officers responded to the area of Lauren Avenue and Second Street at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday after callers reported a domestic dispute in progress. The Lompoc Police Department said when officers arrived at the scene, they located the man and woman fighting and being uncooperative.

The police department said 48-year-old Steve Aguilar of Lompoc, who was identified as the suspect, was inside his car at the time of the officers' arrival and drove it at one of the police officers. That's when an officer-involved shooting occurred but police said Aguilar was not hit.

Aguilar then fled on foot and was later Tasered and arrested after a brief foot chase, according to police. Aguilar suffered minor injuries during the pursuit and no officers were injured in the incident.

It's unclear if the officer-involved shooting is under investigation by law enforcement.

Aguilar is charged with attempted murder, making criminal. threats, and resisting arrest. No further details were immediately known.
