Hit-and-run suspect arrested while trying to break into Ventura home

VENTURA, Calif. - Ventura police arrested a man they say was involved in a DUI hit and run and then attempted to break into a Ventura home early Thursday morning.

According to a press release from the Ventura Police Department, at around 1:30 a.m. officers responded to a call of a hit and run on the 1300 block of Santa Clara Street. The driver of the suspect vehicle reportedly fled the scene of the crash on foot.

While responding to the hit and run, officers received word about a possible residential burglary happening at a residence on the 100 block of Chrisman Avenue.

Additional officers responded to the residence and found a man on the porch of the house, beating on the door and breaking out windows.

Officers detained the man and then determined he was the registered owner of the vehicle abandoned earlier during the hit and run crash on Santa Clara Street.

The man has been identified as Paul Gray, 65, of Ventura. Officers determined that Gray was the driver of the vehicle involved in the earlier hit and run.

Gray was treated at Ventura County Medical Center for minor injuries and was later booked into the Ventura County Jail in connection with the hit-and-run and driving under the influence. Gray could also face charges for felony vandalism.

No other injuries were reported.
