Felon arrested in Oxnard for possessing firearm

Drug paraphernalia in plain view at traffic stop

OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department has arrested a convicted felon for possessing a firearm.

According to police, officers from the Special Enforcement Unit conducted a traffic stop in the Lemonwood neighborhood near the Intersection of Emerson Avenue and Dupont Street in Oxnard just before 5 p.m. Sunday.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered drug paraphernalia in plan view and smelled what appeared to be burnt marijuana in the vehicle. Officers then searched the vehicle and located a semiautomatic handgun, police said. 

The driver, 31-year-old Omar Baez of Oxnard was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm as well as ammunition.
