SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The driver of a pickup truck that crashed into a Santa Barbara restaurant Saturday afternoon was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police say John Dalton, 53, of Santa Barbara was under the influence of drugs when he drove his Toyota Tacoma off the roadway, sheared a pole and crashed into the patio at Carlitos Café y Cantina at 1324 State St.
A total of five people were injured in the crash including pedestrians who were on the sidewalk. No one sitting on the patio of the restaurant was injured and the building did not sustain any structural damage.
Dalton is facing felony DUI charges in connection to the crash.
The crash was treated as a "mass casualty incident" due to the number of patients.
