Driver in Highway 154 crash arrested on suspicion of DUI

Passenger suffered life-threatening injuries

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The driver in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 154 near Santa Barbara was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Arnulfo Garcia-Soriano, 24, of Santa Barbara was arrested after his vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree late Friday night.

The crash happened at around 10:15 p.m. in the westbound lane of State Route 154, east of Stagecoach Road.

Garcia-Soriano suffered moderate injuries and an unnamed passenger was seriously injured and required extensive extrication from the mangled Chevrolet Tahoe. The passenger's injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

The vehicle partially blocked the westbound lane, leading to a major traffic backup and a three-hour closure.

At this time, Garcia-Soriano has yet to be booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.
