SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The driver of a vehicle that plunged off Gibraltar Road killing two passengers in late June has been charged in connection to the fatal crash.
Brandon Scott Woodward, 19, of Ventura was formally charged in Santa Barbara County District Court on Monday.
District Attorney Joyce Dudley announced that Woodward was charged with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of driving under the influence causing injury.
The charges also come with special allegations for personally inflicting great bodily injury and causing death or bodily injury to multiple victims.
On June 26, a 2005 Volkswagen driven by Woodward plummeted 300 feet off the side of Gibraltar Road in Santa Barbara, injuring Woodward and two passengers and killing two other passengers.
California Highway Patrol arrested Woodward on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Woodward is set to be arraigned in Santa Barbara Superior Court on Tuesday.
