Couple arrested in Ventura for human sex trafficking

16-year-old victim was missing girl from Riverside

VENTURA, Calif. - A couple is facing charges of human sex trafficking after being taken into custody by law enforcement in Ventura Wednesday afternoon.

The suspects in this human trafficking case have been identified by Ventura police as 18-year-old Asia Jones from Riverside County, and 27-year-old Percy Stanley, originally from Arkansas.

Investigators say a resident in the 3100 block of Armada Drive called Ventura police at 1:16 p.m. Wednesday, to report a possible act of prostitution. The caller told police that a silver Mercedes Benz had dropped off a woman in the area, and moments later a Hispanic man met up with the young woman. The two walked into a neighbor's side yard and dropped their pants and began having sex in plain view, investigators stated.

Both individuals ran away after the caller confronted them, but police later found the young woman, described as a black female with pink hair wearing a black bra and spandex pants, walking by herself in the area of Lang and Main streets. She was later identified as a missing 16-year-old out of Riverside County.

Police also located Jones and Stanley walking in the area of Dos Caminos and Telegraph Road. Police originally stopped them because Jones matched the description of the 16-year-old caught having sex, but later discovered a connection between all three individuals.

Members from the Ventura Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit, Patrol Task Force, and Ventura County Human Trafficking Enforcement Team responded to assist in the investigation.

"Detectives learned that Stanley and Jones had been staying at a local Ventura motel with the 16 year old female victim. Stanley and Jones had posted an ad of the victim on social media sites known for internet prostitution and human sex trafficking," stated the Ventura Police Department. "Detectives believe the male subject seen having sex on Armada Dr. with the 16-year-old victim had learned of the victim's availability for sex on one of these websites."

It's not known at this time whether the Hispanic male knew the victim's true age.

Police also located the silver Mercedes Benz used to drop off the victim on Armada Drive and learned the car belonged to Stanley. Investigators located evidence that allegedly indicated Jones and Stanley were the 16-year-old victim's pimps.

Both suspects were booked at Ventura County Jail. Stanley was charged with Human Trafficking of a Minor, Pimping of a Minor, and for a felony warrant out of San Bernardino County for human trafficking of a minor.

Jones was charged with Pimping of a Minor and Human Trafficking of a Minor.
