CHP suspect pursuit locks down Nipomo-area schools

NIPOMO, Calif. - Nipomo High School and Central Coast New Tech High School were locked down for about 20 minutes Thursday afternoon as California Highway Patrol officers chased a suspect.

California Highway Patrol units were chasing a dark blue or black Chevrolet sedan traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 101 at 85 mph.

They briefly ended the chase for safety reasons before tracking the car on Thompson Avenue, where the suspect drove near Nipomo High School.

Officers eventually lost track of the car and suspect.

The lockdown briefly delayed students from leaving campus when class was dismissed at 2:50 p.m.

Parents picking up their students were told to stay in the cars, while teachers and students inside the school were ordered to remain in place.

The Lucia Mar School District says the lockdown was ordered by the California Highway Patrol.

Once the lockdown was lifted, students returned to their typical after-school activities on campus.
