Car theft suspect on the loose after leading police on pursuit in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. - Ventura police continue their search for a suspect they said stole a car and then led authorities on a vehicle pursuit Tuesday.

The Ventura Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Arbor Avenue at about 12:39 p.m. regarding a suspicious unoccupied car parked on the street. Dispatch determined the car was stolen out of Oxnard after running the license plates.

During the call to 911, an unidentified man got into the car and drove off before officers arrived at the scene. However, an officer saw the vehicle traveling on Telephone Road near Olivas Park Drive, and that's when the car chase began according to the Ventura Police Department.

The pursuit continued eastbound on Olivas Park Drive and then southbound on Victoria Avenue, which took the pursuit into the city of Oxnard. The pursuit then continued on Gonzales Road until the area of Ventura Road where the suspect pulled into an alley and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.

Pursuit speeds reached up to 75 mph. Police said the suspect ran several red lights.

Despite a thorough search of the neighborhood, which utilized a Ventura County Sheriff's helicopter, Oxnard police officers, and a Ventura Police K-9, the suspect driver was not located.

No one was injured in this pursuit. The incident remains under investigation.
