Bakersfield men arrested on drug charges, probation violation in Arroyo Grande

Stolen mail and credit cards recovered

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Two Bakersfield men were arrested in Arroyo Grande Sunday, accused of stealing mail, possessing burglary tools and possession of a controlled substance.

At around 9 a.m., the Arroyo Grande Police Department responded to a suspicious vehicle on the 100 block of West Branch Street.

Officers made contact with the two men in the vehicle, Jake Milo Rupe and Brandon Chance Steffan both of Bakersfield.

Officers discovered a partially hidden handgun tucked between the seat and the center console of the vehicle.

Officers learned that Steffan was on active felony probation out of Kern County.

As officers searched the vehicle they found numerous pieces of suspected stolen mail,
approximately a half an ounce of methamphetamine, burglary tools, stolen credit cards and drug
paraphernalia. The handgun was later determined to be a replica.

Steffan and Rupe were arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail. They face charges for possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, driving on a
suspended license and violation of probation.
