Authorities searching for Santa Maria man in connection to drug and gun arrests

Also wanted on parole violation

ORCUTT, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a man wanted for questioning in connection to a pair of drug and gun busts that occurred Friday morning in Orcutt.

At around 9:15 a.m., sheriff's deputies located a vehicle on the 1400 block of Oak Knoll Road in Orcutt that was believed to be associated with Daniel Vasquez, 29, of Santa Maria who was wanted for violating the terms of his parole.

Vasquez is currently out of custody on bail for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possession for sales of a controlled substance.

Deputies kept watch on the vehicle when they saw a subject getting into the vehicle. The subject was identified as 29-year-old Cary Kelly who was determined to be associated with a nearby residence.

Deputies searched the vehicle and located about one pound of crystal methamphetamine.

Kelly was arrested for possession for sale of a controlled substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Deputies then went to the associated residence where they observed Courtnie Hayson, 28, of Santa Maria attempt to flee from the rear of the residence. She was detained on a $25,000 probation warrant and arrested for providing false information.

Vasquez was believed to still be inside the residence and Oak Knoll Road was briefly blocked. An emergency notification was also sent to residents in the area advising them to shelter in place.

The advisory was lifted when it was determined that Vasquez had already fled.

The residence was searched and two firearms and high capacity magazines were seized. One of the firearms is believed to be a California illegal assault weapon.

Vasquez is wanted for questioning and for violating the terms of his parole.

Anyone who sees him is told to call 911 or the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office at (805) 683-2724.
