20-year-old woman faces DUI charges after Fillmore crash that killed her passenger

FILLMORE, Calif. - A 20-year-old Palmdale woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI after an evening crash that killed her passenger on Friday.

Maia Yasmin James. 20 of Palmdale was driving a 2017 Lexus westbound on Highway 126 near Fillmore when the vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic. The vehicle clipped a Toyota Corolla and continued into oncoming traffic before colliding with a Dodge vehicle. 

A 20-year-old female passenger in the Lexus died on scene. The driver of the Corolla, a 38-year-old Fillmore woman, was transported to the hospital with major injuries. 

Four others, including James and a 2-year-old boy, were transported to hospitals with minor injuries. 

James was arrested and faces charges for driving under the influence causing injury or death
