The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District reached a tentative agreement with the Faculty Association today on a new contract.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Richardson released this statement: "We are happy to announce that we have a tentative agreement with the Faculty Association. We are pleased that we had the opportunity to discuss important issues in our district and to address those issues. We look forward to re-directing all of our energy to important business of educating our young people."
Yesterday teachers from high schools throughout the area rallied to show support for their negotiating team.
They said new changes proposed by the school district would take away their voices and limit their input.
Neither side would discuss the details about what exactly was being negotiated, but teachers say they haven't seen a raise in six years.
