Folklorico dancers performed in honor of Cinco de Mayo at UCSB.

Afterwards they practiced for more performances later this month.

Dancers said they want people to know Cinco de Mayo isn't like the Fourth of July,  Mexico's independence day is in September.  Cinco de Mayo marks a victory in the battle of Puebla against the French.  People in Mexico and America started marking the occasion with cultural shows and fiestas.

The holiday is good for business.  Since May 5 falls on Monday, bars are serving up special margaritas all weekend.

Law enforcement officers are working together to increase patrols through the holiday.  They will be looking for impaired drivers and they are encouraging everyone planning to drink to designate a driver.
