Woman Identified in Avila Beach Fatal Crash
The Fresno County Coroner's Office reports Denise Snyder from Los Osos was the woman killed in Sunday night's car crash in Avila Beach.
The California Highway Patrol is looking for any witnesses, following that crash.
Investigators went back to the crash site to search for any evidence, clues, or items left behind from Sunday's deadly accident.
CHP says 44-year-old Denise Snyder was driving north on Avila Beach Drive just after midnight. When she passed Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort, her 1985 Chevrolet pick-up truck, for unknown reasons, veered off the road. It hit a small tree, then a power pole, before going down the embankment. When officers arrived Snyder was pinned inside the truck against a large tree.
"The solo occupant was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by fire personnel," said Officer Laura Browning, San Luis Obispo, California Highway Patrol.
Snyder was then transported to Sierra Vista Hospital.
"It was determined her injuries were so significant she needed to be transported by helicopter to Fresno Community Hospital," said Browning.
Snyder died at a Fresno Hospital. Officers are now trying to figure out what happened.
"We're hoping that maybe somebody is familiar with the vehicle, or may have saw some of the driving patterns prior to the traffic collision," said Browning.
CHP says it's too early to know if speed or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact CHP at (805) 593-3300.
